Background:

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo focuses on institution- and democracy-building, human rights, and rule of law. It works in areas such as human rights protection, good governance, gender equality, civic participation, training of public officials and police, and project co-ordination. 

During the 6-month assignment, the intern will support the work of two departments. This role offers the chance to learn about the Mission’s work in institution-building, democracy assistance, and human rights, while assisting with and gaining practical experience in media and communications, including preparing media briefs, compiling news summaries, supporting content creation, conducting interviews, and documenting events, as well as supporting coordination, logistics, and stakeholder communication. The intern will additionally broaden their understanding of OSCE structures and operations, particularly the OSCE Security Management System, and gain practical experience in supporting security-related assessments within a multi-institutional organization.

Internships are available within the following departments:

  • Head of Mission Department – Mission Security and Safety Division
  • Democratization Department

     

    This internship will provide an opportunity for selected candidates to gain practical experience in an international and multicultural environment while developing their professional skills and understanding of the OSCE’s mandate and activities in Kosovo.
     

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Interns will be assigned to specific departments and projects, including:

Head of Mission Department (location: Prishtine/Pristina) Mission Security and Safety Division:

  • Providing support with preparing Daily security updates.
  • Assisting in the preparation of incident reports.
  • Supporting update of the Security Risk Assessment, record management, including updating databases and archiving.

Democratization Department (location: Prishtine/Pristina) – Media Section:

  • Assisting in the preparation of daily media briefs, which include compiling news summaries, tracking significant developments, and highlighting key issues relevant to the Mission's objectives;
  • Supporting media-related activities through travel to regional centers, capturing multimedia content, conducting interviews, and documenting events;
  • Providing logistical and administrative support for media program management by organizing and maintaining files, tracking project progress, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders;
  • Supporting the planning and execution of departmental public awareness initiatives and visibility-related activities associated with programs and projects;

     

The internship will be guided by a programme of work agreed between the intern and the supervisor at the start of the assignment, outlining day-to-day responsibilities and specific learning objectives. As part of this plan, the intern will complete a final project a research paper, analytical report, activity or other tangible output that demonstrates the intern’s contribution. The intern will present the key findings and lessons learned to a Mission panel at the end of the internship, as part of the overall learning and evaluation process.
 

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be not older than 30 years on the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice and have completed two years of full-time post-secondary education in an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate, such as university education in communications, journalism, social sciences, security and safety studies or other relevant subjects no longer than two years before the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice.
  • Be national of OSCE participating State; applicants who are nationals of OSCE Partner for Co-operation countries may be considered.
  • Professional fluency in English with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, research and drafting skills.
  • Good organizational skills with ability to process and classify information quickly and efficiently.
  • Tact and discretion in dealing with information;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet applications.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and demonstrate initiative.
  • Basic understanding of gender mainstreaming principles.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience or internships in a relevant field.
  • Experience working in a multilateral/multicultural environment.

     

  • Knowledge of another OSCE working language is an asset. 
     

Remuneration and Benefits:

  • In lieu of remuneration the OSCE Mission in Kosovo will contribute towards the cost of living of International Interns who are non-residents at the duty station (place of assignment), such compensation is equivalent to 10% of the applicable BLA rate.
  • Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna health insurance scheme.
  • The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
