Background:

 

The Department for Security Co-operation (DSC) implements a range of support activities related to countering terrorism (CT) and to preventing and countering violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism (P/C VERLT). With the CT and P/C VERLT portfolios recently merged under the Anti-Terrorism (AT) project, additional external assistance and expertise in required to competently support the full range of AT UB and ExB activities - including as pertains to planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be tasked with the following duties:

    

1. Conducting thematic research on anti-terrorism topics, assisting with the revision and drafting of documents;

2. Assisting with the preparation of written materials, including reports, briefing papers and other documents on anti-terrorism issues;

3. Assisting with project management and implementation, such as the preparation of project proposals/budgets and compiling of projects’ reports;

4. Assisting with the preparation and organization of meetings/conferences/ events/workshops under the scope of the project;

5. Note-taking and contributing to drafting reports from events;

6. Assisting with the implementation of any other project-related tasks or department-wide activities, as assigned;

7. Contributing to cross-departmental/dimensional collaboration, including by sharing and cross-checking information and following up with the Mission’s Human Dimension Department; 

8. Performing other tasks as required.

Necessary Qualifications:

 

  • Be between 19 and 30 years old on the date of the deadline of this vacancy notice;
  • Have completed two years of full-time post-secondary education, or have completed a first or advanced degree in international relations, political science, social science, or a related field, with some level of specialization pertaining to CT and/or P/C VERLT, no longer than two years before the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
  • Good knowledge of the political, socio-economic and cultural context in BiH, particularly as pertains to identity-based radicalization;
  • Research and analytical capacity, including the ability to effectively advise and  to present information in different forms to diverse audiences;
  • Prior work for and with youth (i.e. young men and women) would be a distinct advantage;
  • Some degree of familiarity with OSCE policies, procedures, practices, programmatic work and organizational structure would be an advantage;
  • Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications;
  • Professional fluency in English with excellent communication (both oral and written) skills;
  • Knowledge of local language would be an advantage.

 

 

Remuneration Package:

 

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo. 

The internship lasts up to six (6) months for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and up to three (3) months for international applicants. 

Internships do not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE. 

The selected intern shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
